The ground shook with the sound of thundering hooves, and the very air trembled as an ear splitting below escaped the mouth of a huge moose buck, galloping at full speed through the forest.
Before the stagg, an agile grey shape sprinted, leaping nimbly over logs and dodging bushes, all the while laughing loudly, tongue lolling from parted jaws, emerald occuli sparkling with youth and glee.
Suddenly, the duo burest into the Clearing of Peace, the wolf scrambling beneath a bush which moments later was crushed by the rampaging moose.
Mouse threw a glance over her shoulder and, realising that the moose was gaining on her, put on a sudden burst of speed, her stringy muscles pumping furiously, her plume rippling behind her. The moose bellowed again, and Mouse felt additional adrenaline burst through her body at the heart stopping sound.
Time to desert, I think.... The slight grey fae thought, as a low hanging tree branch came into her line of vision.
The moose was speeding up, gaining on her again, eyes bulged as he went to lower his head, ready to mall the annoying creature who had attacked his daughter with the heavy antlers emerging from his thick skull. He lowered his crania, antlers bared and charged forward...... and on, and on, and on...... The beast lifted his head, skidding to a halt. His antlers hadn't come into contact with flesh, nor had he heard the satisfying sound of cracking bones. He whirled around at the sound of a shrill laugh, but he could see nothing, and so, with an angry snort, he turned and crashed back into the trees again.
Meanwhile, a pair of jade occuli watched him through a green curtain of leaves. Perched in a fork between two branches of a tree was the small grey femme. Mouse had leapt onto the low branch she had seen, moments before the moose had charged beneath it. She had quickly crawled along the branch to the trunk of the tree, concealing herself behind the leaves, which is where she sat now.
Dumb animal.... She thought with a broad smile, walking nimbly out onto the branch again and leaping to the floor. Couldn't even catch a small femme like me.
